Pole Barn Day 2- Trusses

The weather was terrible today so we decided to build some trusses in the garage.  We built a jig out of 2 sheets of plywood and blocks so we could make all of the trusses the exact same.  Each 2x4 is cut then the joints are secured on both sides with plywood and finishing nails to hold it all together until the wood glue dries.  After a run to the store for more plywood and modifying our jig, we only got 2 trusses made.  Another fun day!  I learned a lot about truss building.

Pole Barn Day 1- Let the Magic Begin!

Today we had to select the site and start setting the 12' 6x6 posts which were the foundation of the pole barn.  These require 3- 3 1/2 foot deep holes filled with 2-4 bags of concrete.  These holes have to be precise to allow everything else to fall into place.  Because of their precision and us having to re-dig some holes, we only got 5 of the 8 up today.  We had fun today and will definitely get a good nights rest.  Our bodies are tired from digging holes and man handling the heavy posts.
